I am so confused with these instructions... Could someone explain this to me like I'm an plum because I am?How to use: Extract to your Sims 1 install directory. **Back up the original sims.exe**. Create a shortcut (or add the game to steam) and add -w to the end of the location under Properties of the shortcut. This will launch 800x600 mode of the game, but it will actually be much larger!Formerly known as Simasaurus09

S4 simblr: http://simlogic.tumblr.com/ - Hi Simasorus09,
I too am finding that on my laptop the resolution of 1024x768 for the game is not showing me the Hicks trailer or that side of the river.
What I think they are saying here is that you have to extract that file to your C: drive Maxis folder. You can find that folder in your My computer program file (x86). The exe file is the file that is used to click on to start the game. What I think they are saying here is to go into your Maxis folder and extract the 1440x1080 version file into the sims folder. Then Scroll all the way down till you find the blue icon that says The Sims that is your exe icon file. Right click that and make a short cut for your desktop. Then once you have that short cut on your desktop then right click that one then go into the Properties.
When it comes up you will see in this new exe file the writing will be in blue there you can add the -W that should put it into windows mode.
Now while I was poking around with this I found this in the compatability tab Settings run in 640x480 resolution. I have not tried that and it seems to me that it would be a larger resolution then 800x600. If I am correct. the higher the number the smaller the resolution.
Also too to get to that 800x600 you can find that in start all Programs maxis folder then you will see your two choices 1024x768 and the resolution for 800x600. You can also send that to your desk top then right click and put the -W in that as well. Instead of going through this extract folder and maybe save yourself some steps. Not sure. I have not tried any of this but I do have the similar problem with not being able to see the whole screen.
Hope I made sense here with this
Your simmy friend,
Winterloc - edited January 2015Thank you for responding. So I did try everything and the only thing that worked was going into All Programs from the start menu and clicking on 1024x768. Everything else I tried the game would crash after The Sims screen. Trying to add the -w in properties told me that file name was not valid. Anyways, maybe it looks perfect to me now because I've been fussing with it for so long. hurray! Thank you very much.Formerly known as Simasaurus09

S4 simblr: http://simlogic.tumblr.com/ - edited January 2015Awesome glad you got it going. For me it is only in the load page of all the houses. Once I am in a house it is ok. I have not tried anything of what you discussed here. I too am playing in the 1024x768 resolution for my desk top and my laptop. I still have not got all my game eps installed as of yet because I am waiting on House Party ep.
I have that in my complete collection but not as a separate ep to add to my deluxe collection and I am using deluxe for my laptop. The reason for that is because I do not want to take my cd disk in and out of the drives in case I scratch it or break it. I will try the -W which is to be added at the end of the string in the general tab of properties for the exe icon. I really do not like playing in windows mode myself. I prefer the 1024x76 but I will see what it will be like once I install all the disks.
Glad that I could help some what but you figured out and that is a good thing. Enjoy your game and I like Sims 1 very much and I guess that is why I keep playing it. I also really like Sim 2 equally well. I have sims 3 also but I only play that when I have played the other two games and want to catch up with the sims in that game.
Your simmy friend,
Winterloc - Ohhh well maybe thats why adding the -w didn't work. I was putting it in the wrong spot.Formerly known as Simasaurus09

S4 simblr: http://simlogic.tumblr.com/ - edited January 2015I think the 1024x768 is much better. In windows mode it is smaller but if you like to go around on the net at the same time then I guess it is a good thing to have. I like playing my sims in full screen cause then I can get a better view of the whole picture and it is up front and close. I just scroll around or click here and there and the sims are good to go and do. I find the dirty dishes that have been left on the floor better in full view.
It just works better for me.
Well any who hope you get it all going the way you want and enjoy playing them. They are not as graphically pretty as the other sims games but for some reason seems like a lot more fun and laughs. If you have super star have your sim go walk the catwalk and see how they act as models. I feel out of my chair when I saw the antics they do while modeling. Just plan funny and fun.
Your simmy friend,
Winterloc - edited January 2015Just a recap Simasaurus9,
The -w does not work for sims 1. I tried and it did not crash but stayed in full screen mode.

- edited November 2017You can run TS1 in Win10.
Yeah, all you need is a no CD patch and run the game in compatibility mode. Anyways, I wish The Sims I was available on Origin or any digital distribution service. - > @canitbeman said:

Is there one for the base game + House Party, Bustin' Out and Hot Date? Because I do not have all of the expansions.0 - > @canitbeman said:

Maybe? I'm not aware of any though.
